Journey

Suzan Kerunen, embraced by many as the 'Alur Queen,' is a distinguished Ugandan musician famed for her dynamic fusion of East and West African musical traditions. Her artistry seamlessly blends genres like Afrohouse, mbira, and bikutsi with influences from zouk and Congolese rhythms, reflecting her deeply rooted Alur-Jonam heritage. Singing in an array of languages including Alur-Jonam, Kiswahili, French, and Arabic, Kerunen's music embodies messages of peace, love, and cultural unity. She embarked on her musical journey with the all-girl group Soul of Africa, alongside her sisters, laying a foundation that led to her successful solo career initiated by her debut album 'Nimefika.' Celebrated for her contributions to African music, Suzan has been honored with a PAM Award and nominated twice for the prestigious Kora Awards. Her impressive stage presence has graced renowned international festivals such as Sauti za Busara and Bayimba Festival, performing alongside icons like Yvonne Chaka Chaka and Miriam Makeba. Beyond her musical pursuits, Suzan is an avid advocate for social causes, passionately involved in cancer awareness, HIV campaigns, and the welfare of child soldiers.
